High Spinal Block
🔑 Key Priorities
- Recognise and manage cardiovascular and respiratory compromise
- Support until block recedes or ventilate if needed
🧠 Team Actions
Role
Task
Team Leader
Diagnose high spinal, guide vasopressor use
Airway Manager
Assess breathing, ventilate if needed
Circulation
Boluses + vasopressors (metaraminol, adrenaline)
🧭 Management Algorithm
- Recognise symptoms: hypotension, bradycardia, dyspnoea, paralysis
- Call for help
- 100% O₂, secure airway if apnoeic
- Give fluid bolus + vasopressors
- Tilt head-up if tolerated
- Reassure patient, block should regress
